A nitrogen base is a molecules that contains nitrogen and also has the chemical properties of a base. They are a major component of DNA, particularly in the composition of nucleotides. Based on their structure, they are either categorized as purines or pyrimidines. The five nitrogenous bases in genetics are:
- Adenine (DNA)
- Guanine (DNA)
- Cytosine (DNA)
- Thymine (DNA)
- Uracil (RNA)
